CHARACTER INFO

Character Name: Rubeus Hagrid
Character Canon: Harry Potter

History: via Harry Potter Wikia

AU History: In Brave New World, his history is going to be very different but not without some similar elements. Growing up, it was his father that raised Hagrid. His mother disappeared when he was roughly three years old and all that he knew about her was that she was also an Enlightened, a Shifter that could shape shift into a Tyranitar.

For as long as he could remember, he has never lived in a house or under a roof for more than a couple of days at a time. Instead, he and his father were always traveling the land and camping out outdoors. This allowed them the opportunity to study the pokemon in their natural habitat of the wilderness. When his father passed away after an accident, Hagrid continued to live on his own with his father's intentions at heart.

While he has never bonded with a Pokemon before Norbert, there have been times where wild pokemon would accompany him for short periods of time. This is especially true in cases where he has found and treated an injured pokemon, taking the time to nurse them back to health and help them reunite with their respective herds. But one day he found an egg that had been abandoned during his outdoor travels. Taking it upon himself to take care of the unhatched Pokemon, he took to mothering the egg instantly, and upon hatching, adopted the newborn Axew that he promptly named Norbert.

Some time after this, both Hagrid and Norbert arrive at the city, after their continued aimless travels, with only the traveling pack on his back and a pink umbrella that he carries at his side.

Canon Personality: It comes as no surprise that Hagrid, being half giant and all, has one of the biggest hearts one can ever have. He cares for all living creatures, be they gentle or wanting to bite someone's head off. Which happens fairly often. The man does possess a blind eye to creatures in a sense that is both commendable and rather... stupid, to be rather blunt on the subject. But both his heart as well as his intentions are always in the right place. He is regarded as one of the most gifted individuals when it comes to working with magical creatures too, including the fact that he is the first and so far only being to have a tamed herd of Thestrals.

Hagrid has always looked past rumors and typical fears wizards exhibit around strange creatures. They're fellow living beings that have every right to live as anyone else. He can look beyond appearances and take the time to fully understand them, whether it is a Thestral or a Hippogriff. His love for all creatures if admirable even if he has found himself with his fair share of injuries because of it. Also, he loves dragons. Like, really, really loves them, to the point of smuggling a dragon egg into his own hut despite the fact it is unbelievably illegal.

Certainly back in his days as a student in Hogwarts he kept to himself, especially since his size made him a target for teasing and taunting. The time he spent in Dumbledore's company and the years that followed as the Keeper of the Keys, not to mention a member of the Order of the Phoenix, is what brought Hagrid out of his insecurities and into the boisterous, friendly giant he is known for today. And the patience he displays with creatures of all sorts is shown to the students he teaches in Hogwarts, even if he finds it easier to work with animals a good portion of the time.

Now, he is usually one to keep a level head and it takes a lot of effort on one's part to get him riled up, even more so to get him angry or even lash out. He can get flustered and nervous when put on the spot though, which ends up in him stumbling over his own words and speaking before thinking things through. He also has a tendency to struggle at keeping secrets despite his best efforts to keep them. But at the very core of him is a kind man who has seen much, lost more loved ones than any one person should, and has managed to pull through difficult times. He ignores the prejudice he has suffered in the past due to his bloodline and kept a good head on his shoulders. More often than he not he has been considered as a father-like figure to students at Hogwarts given how much he cares for them and has protected them. He cares for his friends deeply and shows a fierce sense of loyalty to those who he shows the utmost respect for.

AU Deviation: Because Hagrid will have spent most of his life around pokemon more than humans, outside of villages and towns visited, he would be a little more on the socially awkward side. It would be similar to when he was a student at Hogwarts except he would learn how to befriend humans at an older age as opposed to when he was younger.

Canon Abilities: He was able to perform magic before his wand was snapped due to being expelled from Hogwarts. However, it is believed that the pink umbrella he always carries has the remains of his broken wand in the handle, since he uses the umbrella to perform non-verbal spells. Also, because of his giant blood he has resistance to stunning spells and curses. In regards to non-magical abilities he has superhuman strength (again because of his blood), is an expert at wielding a crossbow, and skilled at physical fighting.

Enlightened Abilities: Hagrid will be a Rock/Normal Enlightened with the Kindred Soul ability. Because of his fondness for all types of creatures, Normal was the best type I felt that would work for him. He can get along with all types of Pokemon that way. And he inherited being a Rock Type from his mother who is a Tyranitar shape shifter.

At first his usual abilities will consist of Endure, Safeguard, and Helping Hand. These are always examples that prove that his intentions are focused on the protection and well fair of both Pokemon and humans alike. Upon his first evolution he will be capable of Hidden Power and Body Slam, which are more offense attacks as opposed to the defensive ones he is already familiar with. As for his final evolution, he'll have the abilities of Ancient Power and Headsmash.

Starter Pokémon: A level 7 female Axew named Norbert that Hagrid found injured and nursed back to health. She always follows him around no matter what and whenever she is too tired to walk, Hagrid had fashioned a little carrier like one used to carry a baby that he wears over his chest that she sits in.

Notes/Special Considerations: In canon, Hagrid is half giant so he is abnormally tall and strong, standing at 11' 6". Since they do not exist in this world, I have spoken with the mods and to explain his height and strength, it is because his mother was a Shifter who could turn into a Tyranitar.

SAMPLES

First-Person:
Well, this is certainly a new experience, wouldn't yah say, Norbert?

[ There's a pause as the Axew in question responded cheerfully. It earned a low chuckle from hagrid before he went on. ]

Definitely different from bein' out in the wild. S'been a few month since we were last in a village or around other folk. Suppose it'll do us some good to look 'round first. See what's going on and the likes. Sound like a plan to yah?

[ Another eager response follows his question and he grins. ]

Right then! Time's a wastin' with us jus' standin' here— c'mon now!

Third-Person:

Despite the pain he was beginning to feel from his side, the large man remained where he was crouched just a few feet away from a panicking Mankey. The creature was cradling its left arm to itself that was clearly broken. In his hike through this part of the mountain he had stumbled across the injured Pokemon and instantly approached to help. He probably should have thought better than to do that because, in alarm, the creature tried to force Hagrid back with a kick to his side before retreating some.

At his ankles he heard Norbert make a sound if discontent. Had he not lowered his hand to block the little one to keep her still, Hagrid knew she would have attacked to protect her parental figure. That was the last thing he wanted though when the Mankey was already hurt and scared. Probably lost too, if he had to guess. There weren't any others around in this particular area which lead him to believe that it may have been separated from it's family.

"Norbert, no," his tone was stern but not without a gentle touch to it. "Stay put." Then, turning to the Mankey, a smile appeared beneath that mess of a beard. "S'alright now, I promise m'not gonna hurt ya. Jus' want tah look at the arm of yers, see if I can help with it."

Slowly he extended his free hand to the creature without budging an inch from his spot. All of his attention was on the Mankey now.

    "You can trust me. Promise."

The Mankey bristled and eyed him warily at first, refusing to move too. It was boiling down to nothing more than a battle of patience now - to see which of the two would give in or give up. In the minutes that followed, it felt like hours, but Hagrid refused to leave without at least trying to help the injured Pokemon. And the Mankey realized this in time. Noticing that the man was neither leaving nor showing any indication that he was going to attack, it began to show signs of relaxing in his presence.

Hagrid remained in his spot and watched, smiling still and offering further words of encouragement. "Can't get 'round much with yer arm like that now. If yah let me look at it, we can see what I can do 'bout it." Another minute then passed as Norbert looked from Hagrid to the pokemon and nudged the hand that acted as a barrier. He moved his hand to stroke her back to sooth her concerns, but he maintained eye contact with the Mankey, until finally, there was a change.

It took one step cautiously towards Hagrid before following up with a second.

"Easy does it now," he mumbled softly under his breath. "Take yer time."

And eventually, to his relief, Hagrid watched as the Mankey finally closed the distance between them, looking up to him with a completely different expression from before: it was clear to see that it was in pain, but no longer was it looking to him with fear. With a sigh, the large man eased himself to be seated on the ground before patting the patch of dirt in front of him, grinning.

"Have a seat and let's take a look at that arm."
